NAPCP Annual Conference a Hit in California

Thursday, April 17, 2014   (4 Comments)

The 2014 NAPCP Commercial Card and Payment Conference was an event to remember.

Marking its 15th year, the Annual Conference was held in lovely Palm Springs, Calif, April 7-10. Nearly 600 Commercial Card and payment professionals came to the desert for four days of in-depth workshops, informative educational sessions, product and technology demos, industry roundtables and more.

Overall, there were 227 end-user organizations represented, as well as 88 provider organizations. Attendees went to 52 different breakout, hot topic and NAPCP Partner Sponsor educational sessions, and interacted with 30 unique exhibitors in the Exhibit Hall.

Keynote speakers Bob Gray and Dr. Mark Nigrini also brought their unique expertise to the conference’s two morning General Sessions. Gray, a world-renowned memory expert, shared memory tips—and funny quips—with the crowd. Dr. Nigrini, a leader in the field of auditing and forensic accounting, talked about how Benford’s Law can be used to detect cases of fraud in financial data.

In an afternoon General Session, a panel of executives from industry leaders American Express, Bank of America, J.P. Morgan, MasterCard and U.S. Bank discussed trends and challenges transforming card payments.

Attendees raved about the General Sessions, as well as the networking opportunities they had at events such as the Exhibit Hall receptions and the Industry Networking Luncheon.

There was also time for fun and relaxation at the beautiful Renaissance Esmeralda Resort. The Members-Only Event, held on the picturesque Rose Lawn, brought NAPCP members together for food, drinks and socializing.

In all, it was a great week and a great way to move the Commercial Card and payment industry forward. And while the fun in Palm Springs had to end, more NAPCP conferences are coming up fast. The 2014 European Commercial Card and Payment Conference—our second-ever European conference—is coming to London June 23-24.

In 2015, we’ll host our first Canadian Commercial Card and Payment Conference, Jan. 14-15 in Toronto. And we’re excited to announce that the 16th Annual U.S. Commercial Card and Payment Conference will be April 13-16, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. On that note, congratulations to Gwendolyn Applewhite, of Verso Paper Corp., who won a pass to the 2015 U.S. conference for signing up as a new NAPCP member in Palm Springs!

What an incredible experience. The only downside was too many great sessions from which to choose! Words cannot exppress the opportunities for personal/professional growth, knowledge and camaraderie that is created with one's peers by being there in person. I am very excited about the new Subject Matter Expert Resource program being launched by our Government, K-12 and Higher Education groups, which was brought out at the conference. Look for more information about it in upcoming NAPCP announcements. Anyone in our industry will benefit both themselves and their organizations' card/payment programs by joining the NAPCP.
