Communication Language to Use When Corresponding with Suppliers Who Surcharge

When paying with a credit card in Washington State, it is legal to apply an additional surcharge fee on credit card purchases, providing the supplier has complied with the rules associated with surcharging. However, the City of Tacoma includes language in their contracts that indicates they do not permit surcharging by suppliers when paying with a P-Card. For those suppliers who try to surcharge, an email is sent from JoAleen Ainslie, their P-Card program manager, that explains the City's position. JoAleen has shared an example of that communication, as well as other helpful tips.
