New Year's Message from the Directors

Dear Colleagues,

As we enter 2018 and wish you a Happy New Year, we are amazed by the exponential growth of our industry, which continues to offer unprecedented conditions, new players and even roadblocks, seemingly around every corner. The NAPCP has been been the vanguard of Commercial Card and Payment education for almost two decades, and there is no other organization better prepared to lead you successfully into the future.

As you know, the industry is going places where some are reluctant to go: allowing users to process expenses via mobile apps, communicating via electronic alerts, accessing cyber currency, and allowing unprecedented vendor access. But go we must, for to keep our programs healthy and protected, we must embrace innovation, or be left behind. Our industry was built—and continues to be built—by adventurers and pioneers who clear the road ahead. However, we understand that sometimes you are hesitant to give over your programs to new technologies in an uncertain topography. This is where we come in.

The NAPCP operates under one guiding principle: to provide you with the tools and resources you need, not just to do your job, but to understand what drives the industry, and how to excel as a professional and bring value to your organization.

In everything we do, we first ask ourselves, “How will this benefit our community?” Our promise to you is that we will always be one step ahead of what you need. We navigate the shifting landscape for you, so you can do what you do best: create and maintain the best Commercial Card and Payment programs, or provide the products and technology that support those efforts.

We do this each and every day. In the past year we brought you:

We’ve incorporated a few changes, too. The NAPCP welcomed new staff who bring fresh perspectives and new ideas about how to serve you better. And you may have noticed some changes in our communications and website. We have finessed our electronic design and functionality, so you can more easily and efficiently access the NAPCP resources you need.

In just a few months, we will host our 19th Annual Commercial Card and Payment Conference at Harrah’s Southern California, in San Diego, April 9-12, 2018. As we do every year, we have studied the industry terrain, listened to your challenges and pain points, and planned an event that addresses emerging trends as well as fundamentals. We know you attend our conference to learn about the industry’s latest tools and newest advancements, and there’s no better place to gain fresh perspectives and cutting-edge education. Come prepared to leverage the wisdom of the industry’s best strategists and thought leaders. There will be more than 80 sessions and 60 speakers to support you!

Before then, consider attending an upcoming Regional Forum. For some of you, they are close to home. We will be in Denver on January 18 and in San Francisco on February 22. Don’t miss this affordable opportunity for a day of education and networking.

In addition to Regional Forums, we continue to provide other ways to engage with your colleagues, global peers, providers, and of course, the NAPCP. Our samples library, eNetworking tool, Resource Center, weekly polls and user groups are available 365/24/7. And we have reached out to you, asking you to take advantage of the many opportunities to participate in the industry. We encourage you to host or speak at an NAPCP event, participate in our educational webinars, join a sector user group and contribute content as a subject matter expert. If you aren’t already an NAPCP member, consider joining us today. Our modest membership fee gives you full access to thousands of dollars’ worth of industry studies and reports, tools, resources and virtual learning opportunities.

Please consider earning the Certified Purchasing Card Professional (CPCP) credential in 2018. This is an opportunity to be recognized for your exemplary level of expertise while advancing your career. Since 2006, more than 700 people have held the CPCP credential, with 68 professionals earning the certification in 2017.

While we are proud of our contributions to the industry, and our service to you, we are also proud of your accomplishments, made even more impressive by the challenges you face.

This is our New Year’s wish for you: to go places you haven’t gone before, in the name of excellence and innovation. We will be with you, every step of the way. And on this journey, we are grateful to our Year-Round Partner Sponsors who are leading us in this ever-changing industry. We are all fortunate to travel with them.

Sincerely,

Laura Flandrick, CPCP and Diane McGuire, CPCP, MBA
