CPCP Recertification: Example Point Plans

Examples of How to Earn 18 Points

This page is intended for current CPCPs interested in different ways to earn at least 18 qualifying points during their certification period

Note: Card-related work experience is not required during your certification period, but it is the easiest way in which to earn recertification points. All of the examples below reflect three years of such experience for nine total points (three points per year)—half of the 18-point minimum requirement.

Creating a Plan

1. Review point-eligible endeavors and identify the ones of most interest to you.

2. As needed, review guidelines for evaluating other potential point-qualifying endeavors.

3. Consider the three-year certification period and 18-point minimum requirement.

4. Strive to earn at least six points per year; for example, during year one:

  • three points for card work experience
  • two points for webinar attendance (at 0.25 point each, attend eight)
  • one point for attending a one-daylocal P-Card event or taking a qualifying college course
Example 1: Involves Travel
  • Three years of card-related work experience: 3 points/year = 9 points
  • Attend three NAPCP Annual Conferences: 3 points/conference = 9 points

Example 2: Involves Travel
  • Three years of card-related work experience: 3 points/year = 9 points
  • Attend one NAPCP Annual Conference: 3 points/conference = 3 points
  • Attend two other multi-day qualifying conferences: 2 points/conference = 4 points
  • Fulfill a speaking role (i.e., deliver a presentation) at two of the three conferences noted above: 1 point/event = 2 points (speaking points are in addition to conference attendance points)
Example 3: No Travel
  • Three years of card-related work experience: 3 points/year = 9 points
  • 36 webinars (e.g., 12/year during each of the three years): 0.25/webinar = 9 points
Example 4: No Travel
  • Three years of card-related work experience: 3 points/year = 9 points
  • Three years of end-user purchasing work experience: 1 point/year = 3 points
  • Attend eight 60-minute qualifying webinars: 0.25 point/webinar = 2 points
  • Attend two local one-day card-related educational events (e.g., NAPCP Regional Forum, card provider regional meeting): 1 point/event = 2 points
  • Participate in qualifying industry surveys to earn 2 points total in the survey category
Example 5: No Travel
  • Three years of card-related work experience: 3 points/year = 9 points
  • Earn a qualifying professional credential (e.g., CTP) during the CPCP certification period: 5 points
  • Fulfill a speaking role for two qualifying webinars (i.e., deliver a virtual presentation): 1 point/event = 2 points
  • Earn 2 points for qualifying writing endeavor(s)
