What do members have to say?

"The networking opportunities through my NAPCP membership are a valuable resource.  The ability to network with my peers in the public school sector has given me a whole different perspective on how to do my work.  Before I attended a Regional Forum in Dallas, I had been struggling with getting all receipts from area campus sites.  During the Forum, I had the chance to network with others who dealt with the same issue. One attendee shared her solution: create mailing envelopes so that staff members could send their receipts to their P-Card Administrator.  This sounds simple, but without the networking opportunity, we would not have solved this large issue so easily.

The NAPCP website is a resource I use to keep up with changes to industry standards.  There are too many places to check for updates and to keep track of changes but I can go to the NAPCP website and find the updated standards with all the information in one place. Receiving e-mails from the eNetworking board on a daily basis is a valuable resource, too.  There are typically two submissions a day and it’s great to see how many people respond.  I have been able to manage our benchmark program through this network. It’s nice to talk with someone who is having the same problems and be able to work them out."

"Membership in the NAPCP brings recognition and credibility to my role as P-Card Administrator. Our organization is a shared services holding company that provides service to multiple operating companies. Management supports the idea that membership and certification promote employee expertise so I can provide better service to our clients as well as to internal departments. Many of our employees are obtaining credentials that pertain to their position through association memberships, and are doing so without having to attend a university. I plan to obtain the CPCP credential through the NAPCP."

Certified Purchasing Card Professional (CPCP) Credential Program

As a Purchasing Technician responsible for the daily administration of my organizations P-Card program I was given the opportunity to step up to more of a Program Administrator’s role with the program. I accepted the challenge and became responsible for not only day-to-day activity, but also for program planning and implementation of policy and procedure. I wanted to make sure that I was making the best educated and industry supported decisions as possible. That is when I began to seriously consider testing for my CPCP certification. I did not initially expect a promotion or salary increase with the certification, but was in need of the educational resources provided by the NAPCP that came with the process of testing for the CPCP. I decided to go ahead and test. I passed and I received my CPCP certification. I was thrilled just to receive the certificate and hang it on my wall (and my group took me to a celebration lunch to boot). It was an immediate confidence booster! A few months later my supervisor requested a job audit for my position. After the audit was completed, it was decided that the level of work I was doing along with the education and certification I had achieved would make it possible for a promotion to Purchasing Card Program Administrator along with a salary increase. While I can’t say that the certification was directly responsible for my upward movement, I can say that I don’t think I would have gotten the opportunity to move up without it. In addition to the promotion and pay increase, I have recognized the respect and credibility that comes with professional certification. I can’t recommend the certification highly enough, for many reasons, but professional growth is a top reason.

"Since the CPCP designation is already becoming recognized throughout the purchasing card market as an indicator of one's knowledge and experience, I felt it was important - and very worthwhile - to become certified. In my role as an Account Manager for the leading Commercial Card Provider in the industry, my clients look to me on a daily basis to share best practices, recommend strategies for growth, and provide general information to help them run the most successful card programs. My CPCP certification is one more way of building my clients' confidence in my credentials to meet these needs. It also reflects positively on American Express as an issuer, in that we're offering to clients and prospects a truly professional support team. Although I'd say the process, qualifications and test are sufficiently robust to ensure real meaning behind the CPCP designation, they are not insurmountable and I would encourage all professionals in P-Card roles to make it their goal to become certified."

Career Center
"After twenty years, my former employer went through a restructuring process which included layoffs. . .  I had not updated my resume in nearly two decades, so I logged on to the NAPCP site to get a feel for how to structure my resume as a Purchasing Card professional. After reviewing several postings, I completed my resume and posted it on the NAPCP Career Center.

I was not prepared for what happened next.

Within hours, I received my first two e-mails from companies looking to set up interviews. From one of those leads, I ultimately accepted my new position as Purchasing Card Administrator. The NAPCP Career Center was perfect place for me to post my expertise as a Purchasing Card Professional—and is the best site for companies to find qualified individuals in our specialty market. I still appreciate how easy the NAPCP site made it for me to transition into my new company."

Annual Conference

"It really is a world-class information-sharing event, one of the best I have attended in 20 years. I know that anyone who attends will tell everyone they know . . .”

Procurement and A/P Team Leader

City of Airdrie, Alberta, Canada and President, Canadian Public Procurement Council
"The annual conference is awesome – there are so many ideas in one place.  The first year I attended, I went to the P-Card Basics Workshop and it was great!  Lynn Larson has so much energy that she keeps you involved.  I was a brand new P-Card Administrator at the time and starting my own program.  With the information and resources from the conference, I was able to get my program started in the right way.  I have been a member for three years and each year I come home from the conference with pages of information and so many good ideas that there is barely enough time to implement them all."

"The NAPCP Annual Conference is a must attend event. The quality of education given, tools that are shared, the networking and connections that are made are invaluable. NAPCP has provided us with a really high-quality platform to promote our payment solutions to existing clients and prospects. Our participation continues to provide solid ROI!"
