PCPCC Member Eligibility and Responsibilities

Are you interested in applying to join the Purchasing Card Professional Certification Council (PCPCC)? The following describes the PCPCC and member eligibility and responsibilities.

PCPCC Functions and Activities

The functions of the PCPCC are to:

  • establish, monitor and revise requirements for certification
  • continue research efforts relating to the certification of Purchasing Card professionals
  • do all things necessary and proper to promote and ensure professionalism in the Purchasing Card industry

The number of council members is limited to a maximum of eight. 

The PCPCC typically:

  • conducts no more than 12 conference calls per year (generally 60 minutes each)
  • holds one in-person meeting each year, which may or may not include an exam review; it is generally held in conjunction with the NAPCP Annual Conference (usually in April at varying locations)
  • uses regular electronic communications (e.g., e-mail, NAPCP website tools, etc.), serving to address CPCP business outside of scheduled conference calls

Common issues, topics, etc. addressed by the PCPCC include:

  • logistics and requirements related to CPCP initial eligibility and recertification
  • potential issues related to CPCP exam, such as problematic questions
  • activities/endeavors that may qualify for CPCP point eligibility
  • revisions to CPCP study materials (e.g., reading references list)
  • CPCP exam item (question) bank, such as the need for deletions and additions
  • marketing the CPCP program (e.g., brochures, audio calls, etc.)
  • CPCP program expansion (e.g., Canadian version of exam)
  • program statistics and demographics
  • benchmarking against other certification programs (e.g., fees, process, etc.)

Decisions are made using majority approval.

 Council Member Eligibility, Commitment and Responsibilities

  • current CPCP
  • current NAPCP member
  • commit to a two-year term (minimum)
  • participate in at least 75% of conference calls and meetings, making every attempt to attend (travel-related expenses in conjunction with annual PCPCC meeting may be the responsibility of the PCPCC member)
  • ability to commit to an average of one to two hours per month to council outside of scheduled meetings and calls
  • generally able to travel to the NAPCP Annual Conference
  • possess ability to think independently, analyze an issue and identify potential solutions—weighing pros and cons
  • willingness to express opinions, as well as listen to and consider opinions of others
  • support the function of the PCPCC, including supporting the team dynamic
  • meet deadlines for providing input/feedback on issues and/or completing tasks, as specified by PCPCC chair and/or agreed to by council
  • function as a "CPCP program ambassador” by demonstrating a willingness to present and/or discuss the CPCP program at events (e.g., cover the CPCP booth at NAPCP Annual Conference, distribute CPCP literature at other events, participate in or lead an audio call)
  • demonstrate ethical and professional standards

If member is unable to meet the above requirements, the PCPCC and/or NAPCP reserves the right to address in a manner appropriate for the situation—one that will best serve the needs of the council and CPCP program, such as:

  • obtain input of other council members and/or NAPCP staff
  • share concerns related to inadequate participation
  • inquire of the council member's interest and ability to continue fulfilling role
  • determine any necessary changes


  • Industry participation, guiding and shaping a national professional certification program
  • Networking with fellow PCPCC members, potential CPCP exam candidates and current CPCPs
  • Professional development, working on a team and expanding industry knowledge
  • Personal satisfaction
  • NAPCP Annual Conference fee waived (when PCPCC annual meeting is held in conjunction with this event)
  • Points toward CPCP re-certification
  • CPCP re-certification fee waived (if still active on council at time of re-certification)
