This study by the Supply Chain Resource Cooperative at North Carolina State University, provides insight into the challenges and opportunities that exist in organizations as they navigate the digital transformation era that we are hearing so much about. The study assesses the current state of data governance, data quality and advanced analytics in organizations from a procurement perspective. In general, organizational data governance and data quality seem to be improving, however the rate of improvement is slow and not meeting the expectations organizations are setting for themselves. Only 15% of respondents believe they have the capability to provide clean data directly from their current systems, suggesting that significant data cleansing is required for the majority of companies.

Given the extremely large volume and high velocity of data, artificial intelligence (AI) will likely become an important analytical tool to support data-driven decision making. Twenty-three percent of survey respondents are currently using some type of AI tool for data analysis.
