NAPCP reviews debate over interchange regulation in U.S.

Friday, June 3, 2011   (0 Comments)

In 2010, debit interchange regulation, known as the Durbin Amendment, was included within the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. In April 2011, Senator Durbin and JPMorgan Chase chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon emphatically stated their opposing positions on this matter, creating a public feud of sorts and making news headlines as a result.

For members and complimentary subscribers, the NAPCP offers an overview of this interchange debate, including:

  • excerpts from the letters by Mr. Dimon and Senator Durbin
  • references to outsiders' perspectives on interchange, such as the paper Economic Analysis of Claims in Support of the "Durbin Amendment" to Regulate Debit Card Interchange Fees
  • the potential impact on Commercial Cards
